 Modeling in VR

To create the base of the tree I used Medium, a VR sculpting tool. The software is extremely intuitive and a great option to sculpt an organic model.

Painterly Textures

I wanted to create a different look, reminiscent of the beautiful landscapes in Studio Ghibli films. To achieve that painterly look I used Substance Painter to create custom textures for all the 3D Models.

I used Cinema 4D to assemble all of the pieces together. For rendering I used Octane’s Toon Shader. This allowed me to add simple shading to the scene.

To finish up the look I wanted large clouds in the background. I decided the best way to get the look I wanted was to paint them in Photoshop. I used a set of oil paint brushes and created 3 clouds with soft edges and lots of blending. I then animated those clouds moving slowly from the left to the right in After Effects and placed them behind the tree and field.
